Why We Created Farm to Fork SK

The Feed > Why We Created Farm to Fork SK

In the last few years, Canadian families have watched grocery prices rise at an alarming rate. Between inflation, supply chain disruptions, and ongoing economic tensions – especially with the U.S. – it’s getting harder to afford quality food. Tariffs and trade disputes have driven up costs on imported items, while fuel prices and transportation delays have only added pressure.

We felt this in our own grocery bill. Simple, everyday staples were suddenly 30–40% more expensive than they were just a couple of years ago. As parents trying to feed a growing family, we started asking: Isn’t there a better way?

Well – yes there is, but finding producers near us wasn’t as simple as we expected. Google searches turned up scattered, outdated listings. Asking around often meant chasing down a “friend of a friend” who sold meat once a year. Facebook groups were helpful – but many of the sellers were located hundreds of kilometers away.

The more we searched, the more frustrated we got.

For anyone that knows Ryan, he is the type of person that thinks he can do everything (sometimes true, other times not). Well, this was another one of those things Ryan thought he could do. But this “I have an idea” conversation was different, and one we felt could do major good for our community and province.

We built this platform because we believe that local food shouldn’t be hard to find. Saskatchewan is full of incredible farmers, growers, and small-scale producers. But too often, their products are hidden away -known only to locals or shared by word-of-mouth. There was no central place to browse them all, no easy way to discover what’s available close to home.

Farm to Fork SK is that place.

We created a free, easy-to-use directory where producers can list their farm, products, location, and contact info -all in one place. Whether you’re looking for pasture-raised beef, farm-fresh eggs, raw honey, homemade baking, or garden vegetables, you can find someone near you who makes it.

And for producers? We keep it free. Always.

We believe in making local food accessible for everyone, including small farms who may not have a budget for advertising. That’s why we don’t charge for basic listings. Producers can upgrade to premium features if they want, but no one is left out.

To support the platform, we plan run a few non-intrusive ads. Our goal is to keep the site ad-supported rather than paywalled. We want to ensure the content remains free, accessible, and useful to everyone in the province.

We also focus on providing content that helps people:

  • Understand the benefits of eating local
  • Learn how to connect with farmers
  • Discover what’s in season in Saskatchewan
  • Explore new producers through our featured listings

Our mission is simple: make it easier to eat local, support Saskatchewan’s food economy, and reduce the distance between producers and the people who want their products.

If you’re a producer, we’d love for you to list your business – it’s quick and free. And if you’re a customer, take a look around. There’s likely someone nearby selling exactly what you’ve been searching for.

Thanks for visiting – and for supporting local.
